Interior Design Corner - How to Style Up Your Contemporary Coffee Table

Considering the fact that it’s the centerpiece of your main living space, how your coffee table is styled, or it isn't, as a matter of fact, can completely change the overall look of the room. Plus, what's found on it can also completely alter its function. When styling it up, you don’t want it to be too perfect and also not too cluttered to the point that there’s no room left to serve its purpose. For that very reason, I took the liberty to put together a few tips when it comes to composing the perfect arrangement that's both functional and visually appealing. Let's get started, shall we?

Create a Grid

Nothing makes for a cluttered space faster than your big collection of small knick-knacks. On the other hand, displaying only large items can look cumbersome and heavy. To maintain a balanced look on your contemporary table, vary the display items and make sure to group similar objects together. When designing a large table from scratch, knowing where to begin can be half the battle. My suggestion is to tape off sections to create a grid and position objects within the squares. This should help you compartmentalize your styling and will make the entire task less intimidating.

Make Seasonal Changes

As the focal point in your living room, your contemporary table is the ideal place to rotate seasonal decorative elements. For instance, nothing says spring like a vase of fresh tulips. In summer, place a sea conch on a stack of books for the ultimate beachy vibe, then come fall, take that shell and place a pumpkin or gourd instead.

Contrast Colors & Heights

Choose decor that contrasts the color of your coffee table. For instance, if the table is in a neutral tone, choose accessories that are in bold hues to put on top of it. If your contemporary table is made of black or dark woods, it's a good idea to showcase metallic and crisp white tabletop items. And if your coffee table is made of glass, then you can opt for any color choice. The age-old rule of threes comes in quite handy when styling up this piece of furniture. Furthermore, if all items on it are at the same eye level, nothing will get noticed. To create a more eye-catching setup, vary the height and scale of your coffee table's decorative objects. Happy decorating!
