How the Hilux Earned its Popularity and How it Can be Improved

The Toyota Hilux is popular for a reason, as many journalists would suggest it's the AK-47 of vehicles you can see it being used in so many environments that it becomes obvious why us Aussies use it so much. It held the title of most bought vehicle in Australia for years, and this popularity is warranted due to the great performance and reliability. And the need for utes has never been as prevalent as it is in the land down under, since we have sprawling roads that go for kilometers and they are also fairly rough as far as roads go, most of them being composed of dirt or sandy pavement. The rougher off-road environments are also another reason Aussies love their utes, you can go from rain forests to sand dunes in a matter of days. This has made it one of the best locations for off-road enthusiasts, where they can test out their modified 4WD vehicles on some of the toughest terrains in the world.

The Hilux exels at most environments you'll put it through, but one thing that most drivers find lacking not only in the Hilux but also in other utes and vehicles is the ground clearance. Ground clearance is the space between the vehicle's chassis and the ground it's driving on, if the vehicle isn't tall enough it could hit and get stuck on various inclines, holes and puddles that would be made much easier if it was lifted a little more. This is why lift kits exist, most utes out there have a myriad of modifications that can change the feel of the vehicle completely, namely it could become more unstable on the paved road. The instability on paved road usually comes with the Hilux suspension kits raising the vehicle to the point where it can over-tilt when turning. However, this is only if you have a suspension lift kit, which isn't the only type of lift kit that you could use.

Aside from the Hilux suspension kits, you could set up your vehicle with a wheel lift kit which is essentially lowering the axle to connect the larger tyres that would not only give more ground coverage, but would also add to the traction of the vehicle. And the number of modifications you can do to the Hilux are beyond number at this point since it is fairly popular, the most popular in fact.
